Zinc plating is one of the more versatile finishes. It can be used for corrosion resistance, aesthetics or as a paint base over the zinc. Yellow can be used as is or as a paint base. Black chromate gives a very smooth shiny black finish for decorative purposes or as an excellent corrosion resistant finish. Olive Drab is usually used for military applications to match camouflage. Zinc plating can also be dyed after plating for lot identification.
The depositing of a metal, most usually zinc metal, on another metal by electrolysis is called plating either by Barrel or Tank. The object to be plated is made the cathode; the metal to be deposited is derived from the anode. The plating may be intended for to provide resistance to corrosion, rust, damage to surface & to increase the life of the product.
We are having Two type of Zinc Plating methods: Acid Zinc & Cyanide Zinc. Zinc Plating is almost related to the Nickel Plating & Chrome Plating processes. The process used in plating is called electro-deposition. The item to be coated is placed into a container containing a solution of one or more metal salts. The item is connected to an electrical circuit, forming the anode or the cathode of the circuit. When an electrical current is passed through the circuit, metal ions in the solution are attracted to the item. The result is an evenly-coated layer of metal around the item. This process is analogous to a galvanic cell acting in reverse.
The material is loaded into the barrel after proper washing with acidic & water. The material is rotated for a specific time by providing current & voltage to get appropriate deposit of the Zinc Metal onto the components.
